The 12th Annual National Arts Centre Conductors Program
June 16 - 28, 2012
Ottawa, Canada
With:
Pinchas Zukerman, Artistic Director
Kenneth Kiesler, Director, Conductors Program
Financial support is available to conductor participants. Canadian conductor participants receive full tuition. International conductor participants receive a partial subsidy.
The National Arts Centre Conductors Program provides a valuable and unique opportunity in Canada and the world each year for five emerging orchestral conductors to develop under the expert guidance of two renowned accomplished orchestra leaders and with two professional orchestras.
Director Kenneth Kiesler brings a wealth of experience and insight as a conductor and a mentor of conductors to lead the participants in thirteen days of intense workshops and score study. Maestro Pinchas Zukerman, world-renowned soloist, conductor and Music Director of Canada's National Arts Centre Orchestra provides additional guidance. Selected conducting fellows from Canada and abroad will begin thirteen days of intensive masterclass style studies with an opening session Saturday followed by an informal dinner. Professional musicians from l'Orchestre de la francophonie provide ensembles from string quintet & piano to full orchestral ensembles for the conductors in the sessions.
All conducting sessions are recorded for personal use and review. Selected sessions may be used as the basis for detailed review led by Maestro Kiesler. The thirteen-day program includes score study led by Maestro Kiesler as well as information sessions with staff, members of the National Arts Centre Orchestra and invited guests.
The program culminates with each conducting fellow leading Canada’s National Arts Centre Orchestra in two rehearsals under the supervision of Maestro Zukerman and Maestro Kiesler and a public concert in Southam Hall of the National Arts Centre.
Acceptance to the program is based on review of submitted audition materials, level of experience and expressed goals in participating. Those selected in the final round of auditions may be contacted for a live interview with Maestro Kiesler. Conducting Apprentices may attend upon approval of an application and audition. The Director may choose to grant Conducting Apprentices brief podium time.
